Last year, we created a new award to honor outstanding contributions made by our professional and support staff. At that time we selected two outstanding representatives of this university who help us to carry out our mission to our students and to the citizens of Nebraska. Today, we again wish to honor two outstanding UNK staff members.
Mitch O-Neill - Operations Manager, Information Technology Services.
First, we want to recognize a person who is starting his 12th year with the university. He was a member of the University-wide Y2K Team that successfully avoided problems when that welcomed, but dreaded date of January 1, 2000 arrived. He was also instrumental in UNK’s implementation of the first telephone registration system in Nebraska. He has also provided us with the needed support for the deployment of the electronic data interchange system that allows our campus to exchange transcripts with other campuses electronically. Our recipient is known to all of us for his courteous demeanor, his insightful intelligence, and his good humor. Therefore, I am happy to present the 2000 Staff Award for Excellence to our Operations Manager in Information Technology Services, Mitch O’Neill.

Next, we are honoring another UNK graduate who is known for her genuine interest in and dedication to students. It is not unusual for her to drop everything to assist students with either their internships or their program of study. She never becomes bogged down in her work nor does she miss the bigger picture of why we are here: to serve our students. In recognition of her detailed knowledge of the working of the MBA Office, in appreciation of her invaluable connections to the Kearney community, and in gratitude for her willing participation on numerous campus committees, we are pleased to present the 2000 Staff Award for Excellence to Mary Ann Lawson, Coordinator of Business Internships and MBA Program Advisor.
