Diana Jones
Office Associate, Registrar’s Office
UNK Employee of the Month
November 2007
The UNK Staff Senate is honored to recognize Diana Jones as the November 2007 UNK Employee of the Month. Diana has been a member of the Registrar's Office staff for over 10 years and during that time, she has worked diligently to improve her primary areas of responsibility, which include developing and maintaining the schedule of classes, assigning classrooms and maintaining the University master course file.
Diana juggles a diverse set of responsibilities and, as new features and services have been added, her duties have increased and grown even more complex. Institutional requirements such as Writing Intensive, Cultural Diversity, coding special fees for E-Campus classes and restrictions on course offerings have all had an impact on Diana’s workload. New technological advances have improved the services the Registrar's Office is able to offer to faculty and departments but, at the same time, those advances have meant new processes and added steps for Diana. She has managed to rise above all the challenges and adjust to recurring changes while at the same time keeping a positive attitude and helpful demeanor.
As new procedures are implemented and life becomes more complex, Diana consistently seeks out ways to alleviate confusion and maximize efficiency. She developed a handbook for the deans’ offices to use in producing the schedule of classes and she initiated on-line editing of schedule drafts for the department chairs.
Whenever a faculty member or department chair has a question about classes, Diana is the “go to” person in the Registrar’s Office. She handles everything from adding new class sections, changing classrooms, and monitoring pre-requisites to tracking curriculum changes, web-based and First Year classes.
She is sought out not only because of her expertise but also because of her pleasant and helpful approach. Her office colleagues often hear numerous compliments from department chairs about Diana helping to solve a problem at a critical time and saving them from certain calamity. They are relieved to have someone with her knowledge, sense of humor and compassion to call upon when they need help.
In addition to her “regular” assignments, Diana recently took it upon herself to develop and implement a records retention and disposal schedule for the Registrar’s Office. She worked with other office staff to classify records according to length of time required for retention and then color-coded them in storage to make the ultimate disposal much easier. Given the volume of records that the Registrar’s Office maintains, this was no small feat! She also developed a work study handbook because she didn’t feel the existing training was providing sufficient background for the students. Her foresight and her initiative are commendable and much appreciated.
Due to her positive working relationship with departments, her diligence in adapting to new technology, her willingness to offer assistance whenever needed and her resourcefulness in problem solving, the UNK Staff Senate is pleased to recognize Diana Jones as the November 2007 UNK Employee of the Month.
The Employee of the Month is sponsored by: UNK Athletics, UNK Theater, Campus Cuts, Chartwells and the Antelope Bookstore.
