The UNK Staff Senate is privileged to recognize the UNK Campus Kitchen to be selected as "department of the month" for February, 2007. UNK’s chapter of Campus Kitchen is 1 in the 12 Campus Kitchen national network with other locations including Northwestern University, Marquette, Wake Forest and others. However, UNK’s chapter is distinguished as it is the only student-run operation.
UNK Campus Kitchen students have volunteered hundreds of hours to this most important endeavor of providing me to local citizens. In fact, to date the students have delivered over 1000 meals to those in need. Not only do the students prepare and deliver meals and conduct food drives, they also take time to visit with each and every recipient. Campus Kitchen students provide a classic model of leadership all too often forgotten by many – they lead by example.
UNK’s Campus Kitchen is lead by Martin Demoret and a Student Leadership Advisory Board well as the director, graduate student Megan Boss. Numerous students are active in this organization and with the help of the leaders, and the many volunteer students, Campus Kitchen is quickly becoming one of the most important entities on campus.
Accordingly, the UNK Staff Senate would like to award the UNK’s Campus Kitchen as the February 2007 Department of the Month.
Thank you to the sponsors of the Department of the Month: UNK Athletics and Staff Senate
