December 2006 Employee of the Month - Gloria Travis, Payroll Manager, Human Resources
Gloria Travis has been employed as the Payroll Manager for UNK since April 2001. In just five years, Gloria has been asked to participate in several University-wide projects. She has also been responsible for implementing some of those projects on campus. The first project she accomplished was to help UNK become the first campus to have 100% direct deposit for faculty and staff. More recent projects have included: deploying the Employee Self-Service Leave Request, which automates staff requests for vacation and sick leave and posts them directly into SAP, thus eliminating one step; deploying student and regular Electronic Personnel Action Forms (E-PAF) which cut down on the number of screens necessary to enter new students, faculty and staff into SAP; and the newest project includes working towards automating time entry for hourly paid staff.
Even while managing these many projects, Gloria continues to go the extra mile to help international students who have questions regarding taxes or new faculty and staff who are concerned with what their first paycheck will look like. She always manages to greet people with a smile and help them understand complex issues such as taxes, forms and other necessary payroll items.
Gloria exemplifies a hard-working, detail oriented employee whom most forget to thank for all the work and effort it takes to ensure that the over 1,500 faculty, staff, and student employees are paid correctly and paid on time. For all these reasons, and so many more that Gloria has meant to UNK over the years, Staff Senate is privileged to recognize Gloria Travis as the December 2006 UNK Employee of the Month.
