September 2006 Employee of the Month - Kim Christensen, Buyer I, Business Services Office
During Kim’s 24-year career at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, she has been the lead implementer through several financial software implementations - both FRS and SAP in the Purchasing area. Kim has taken on these tasks without hesitation to research the capabilities of the software and was designated as the resources person to complete testing of the functional areas of the software to review how this software implementation would work with current University processes. When needed, the University processes were adapted to the software to maximize use of the software, but also to improve and gain efficiencies in purchasing to achieve best practices.
With each new software upgrade and expansion of offerings, Kim researches how these offerings can be used in the purchasing processes to maximize campus customer and user satisfaction with material management procedures. Kim has also implemented changes in the testing and application upgrades of the software, creating reference guides and cheat sheets for campus users of the financial system, and conducting training and review spot checks.
Kim has also been instrumental in the procurement card program. She suggests and promotes this program to campus customers when they are determining how to process a request for a purchase or payment in their department.
Kim is always willing to assist co-workers by sharing knowledge and offering assistance. She assists campus users in scheduling and using the Business and Finance Conference Room, makes a conscious effort to prepare the conference room for the technology needed for each meeting, and offers to assist users if problems or questions arise.
Most of all, Kim brings a positive attitude to the office each day, making not only her office, but the University as a whole a better place.
