On behalf of the Staff Senate and the faculty and staff of the College of Education Building, it is our privilege to recognize Lynn Bedke, as UNK’s Employee of the Month for August 2006. Lynn is a colleague to all the faculty and staff within the College of Education building and is someone who is very much admired and looked up to by her co-workers. Not only is she employed full-time as a custodian, but she is a college student who will graduate in December with a Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies/Social Work. She also has a family as well as two other part-time jobs on the side. Her children are involved in sports and school activities and Lynn attends and supports all of her children’s activities.
This past academic year, Lynn has also given of her time to be a mentor to another custodian. As a result, her colleagues and friends have seen improvement in that employee’s socialization skills as well as mastery of his job duties to the point where that individual has now become an integral part of the College of Education family.
In their nomination, a number of Lynn's colleagues noted that she is a role model for others; her patience; her extra efforts in her duties; her smiling, cheerful, and courteous demeanor; her flexibility to help others at a moment’s notice; the personal interest she takes not only in her work but the lives of her colleagues; and the way that she "single-handedly keeps the COE building clean and running smoothly at all times."
These are just a sample of the attributes and characteristics used to describe Lynn and her quality of work and echo the sentiment of all of the faculty and staff of the College of Education Building. Lynn embodies the best qualities of the UNK Employee of the Month award. Therefore, we are honored to recognize her as the August 2006 UNK Employee of the Month.
