The June 2006 Employee of the Month is Gloria Mason, Helpdesk Technician for Information Technology Services.
The ITS Helpdesk had humble beginnings in 1994 in a 6’ by 8’ room with one desk and one telephone answered by Gloria Mason. Today Gloria is one of two full-time Helpdesk consultants in a 40’ by 40’ room that, with the assistance of several part-time student workers, addresses hundreds of inquiries each week from faculty, staff, and students.
Gloria Mason provides outstanding service to UNK as a Helpdesk technician. Often when customers call the Helpdesk, they are extremely frustrated with a problem. Gloria listens carefully to the problem, empathizes with the customer, and proceeds to find the best course of action to immediately fix the problem or implement an interim solution while researching the problem. Many of her customers complement her ability to deal with such a high volume of frustrated callers while keeping a smile on her face. She answers questions on hardware, software, passwords, network access, and many other issues. Additionally, she teaches workshops on a variety of software products. She assists in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, training documentation and office brochures as well as the ITS web site. She is patient and professional and tries to make customers believe that no question is a "dumb question." She can work with technical neophytes as easily as with technical experts. Gloria takes pride in her work, is highly dependable, and has a strong work ethic. Her contribution to the department is invaluable.
Congratulations Gloria on being selected as the June 2006 UNK Employee of the Month!
The Employee of the Month is sponsored by: UNK Athletics, UNK Theater, Campus Cuts, Chartwells and the Antelope Bookstore.
