The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Alta Kramer as the UNK Employee of the Month for November 2003.

Alta Kramer joined the staff of Calvin T. Ryan Library in June 1977 as a Library Assistant II in the Serials Department. She has held several positions in the library since that time, including Audio-Visual Service Technician and her current position of Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Library Assistant III.

In her role as Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Library Assistant III, Alta processes all requests for library materials submitted by UNK faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff. By securing these materials, she aids the UNK community with its research and teaching activities. She also processes requests for materials submitted from other libraries, thus providing library patrons in Nebraska and around the country with materials for their use. Alta supervises several student assistants and also acts as mentor and adviser to them. As a member of the Reference Department she staffs the Reference Desk, answering questions for UNK faculty, students and staff, as well as users from the Kearney community. Alta goes about her daily activities with a genuinely helpful and positive attitude. Her attention to each request she processes, and the individual assistance she provides to library users, reflect her commitment to providing excellent service to all library users.

During the past year, Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery has been implementing an entirely new software system, and Alta has been called upon not only to learn new routines but also to help design some of the system. She has responded to this challenge with her usual good nature and hard work. By subscribing to several listservs and reviewing various forms of documentation, she has provided valuable input to her supervisor and representatives from several library system vendors. When the new Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery system is formally launched for the Fall 2003 semester, much of the success should be credited to her.

Outside of the library, Alta is actively involved in several genealogical groups. These groups benefit from her expertise in the library field with the assistance she provides them in securing information for their research needs. She also works with Kearney Public Library on behalf of these groups.

Alta has proven to be a valuable staff person for the University and the Kearney community. Staff Senate is proud to recognize Alta Kramer as UNK Employee of the Month for November.
