The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Neva Klemme as the UNK Employee of the Month for September 2003.
Neva Klemme, Secretary III in the Counseling Center, who is described as always being positive and wearing a welcoming smile, has been with the Counseling Center since October 2001.
Her colleagues say she has been a quick study in learning University policies and procedures and is rapidly becoming the resident expert for the office. In addition to her responsibilities as the Counseling Center secretary, she also assists the Office of Academic Advising with Summer Advising and Enrollment (SAE). In that role, she prepares files for all of the students who go through SAE, May through July. Her work, which is accomplished with little supervision, is done with accuracy as well as with consideration for the needs of the advisers. In addition, Neva offers her assistance to other Student Life offices when they have large projects.
Neva cares about the students who come to the Counseling Center. She meets students with a calming and reassuring quality that puts students at ease, whether they have come to the center as visitors, regular clients or as students in crisis. When students come to the Counseling Center for resource materials, Neva goes the extra mile by helping them gather the appropriate handouts, find additional resources and search the Web for appropriate sites.
As a member of the Counseling Center team, Neva shows a sincere concern not only for clients but also for her fellow employees. And she constantly looks for ways to improve the Counseling Center whether that means creating more efficient ways of operating the daily business activities of the center, making the office more attractive with a new wall decoration, or planning and organizing a potluck dinner for the staff.
Neva consistently goes above and beyond her duties to ensure that everything is in line and taken care of--even before it needs to be done! The counseling staff affectionately refers to her as “Neva Soon-As-Said-Done Klemme!
