The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Ellen Dake as the UNK Employee of the Month for August 2003.

Ellen Dake has served as a Clerical Assistant II in the Office of Student Records and Registration at the University of Nebraska at Kearney since July of 2000. Ellen shares the responsibility of being the first contact for students, faculty and other office guests. She also works with on and off campus registration, junior checks, and the drop and add process. She is described as being "very pleasant" as she assists students and faculty. One faculty member said, "She always manages to fix whatever problems I have caused and she does so with a very friendly smile, remarkable competence, and never seems to mind that my blunder has caused her extra work!" In her position, Ellen is often the "Face of UNK" for many students. That "face" is consistently friendly, helpful, and professional.

Ellen is always willing to go the proverbial extra mile for those she serves. Her laughter and smile are contagious. At the same time, she is a consummate professional who truly cares about students, faculty, and colleagues. The following statement summarizes Ellen's attitude toward her work at UNK: "Students are not a problem for our business, they are the reason for our business." Her work ethic and her caring, receptive, and professional manner make her a great asset to the campus community.

In recognition of her dedication and commitment to serving the needs of the students and faculty of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, it is a sincere pleasure for the Staff Senate to name Ellen Dake as the Employee of the Month for August 2003.
