The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Mary Daake as the Employee of the Month for May 2003.

Mary Daake began her employment with Kearney State College in the fall semester of 1989 as a half time Associate Director of the World Affairs Conference. She then moved to a full time instructor position in the Department of Political Science in the spring semester of 1990. In 1997 Mary became the Coordinator of Academic Advising. In July 1998 her title officially changed to Director of Academic Advising which is the role she serves today at UNK.

Mary has been invited to serve on many faculty and campus committees, including the Faculty Senate Ad Hoc Advising Committee, the Faculty Senate Continuing Education Committee, and is a non-voting member of the General Studies Committee. Recently, she has begun to serve on the North Central Accreditation subcommittee.

Developing and implementing programs is a trademark of Mary. Programs she has initiated at UNK include PASS, Probation/Suspension Student Contact, Majors Fair and she expanded the Early Warning Referral program.

In addition to serving on committees and leading the implementation of programs, Mary advises 300-600 deciding students. Mary is innovative, intuitive, and truly cares about all the students who come to her with various issues, questions and problems. As a former faculty member, Mary understands the concerns of faculty while serving the needs of students. Because of her dedication to students, to colleagues, and to the wider UNK community, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is pleased to name Mary Daake as the Employee of the Month for May 2003.
