The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Judy Balcom as the UNK Employee of the Month for April 2003.
Judy Balcom has served as Staff Secretary in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics since October of 2002. Prior to that time, she was a valued staff member in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences for nearly 12 years. Both departments nominated Judy for the University of Nebraska at Kearney Employee of the Month award.
During her transition from Geography and Earth Sciences to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Judy was cooperative and professional, and she demonstrated an eagerness to learn her new responsibilities. She accepted the lateral position transfer that was necessitated by budget reductions and she worked very hard to make the transition as easy as possible for everyone involved. Her work habits and high standards allowed her to manage multiple requests efficiently and effectively.
Judy's work is of the highest quality and she applies herself to each assignment. While working in the Department of Geography and Earth Sciences, she was instrumental in producing the annual department newsletter, which included compiling articles, formatting pages, and organizing the efforts of all who were involved with the project.
Beyond the clerical support she has provided to both departments, Judy has served as a mentor to UNK students. Her compassionate and caring manner is evident in her relationships with students and faculty.
Because of her dedication to students, to colleagues, and to the wider UNK community, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is pleased to name Judy Balcom as the Employee of the Month for April 2003.
