The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Rich Brodersen as the UNK Employee of the Month for December 2002.
Rich Brodersen is the Director of Events for the Division of Athletics at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. His many responsibilities include coordinating campus athletic events and activities scheduled in UNK athletics facilities. In addition, he is the voice of the Lopers at volleyball and basketball games, and he currently serves as a part-time UNK track and field coach.
Rich's administration of the Nebraska State High School Cross Country Championships is a typical example of his dedication and commitment to UNK and the Kearney community. This year the competition was held on October 25 and Rich was the meet director. Planning and organizing the championships required a great deal of work. When it snowed three days before the event, he handled the unanticipated weather with professionalism. He consulted with appropriate individuals and groups, including the Kearney Country Club, the Nebraska High School Activities Association, and the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce, to implement the necessary changes that resulted in a very successful athletic competition.
More snow fell the following week and Rich faced the task of preparing Foster Field for both a high school championship play-off game on Thursday night and a Loper football game on Saturday. He worked closely with the staff in the Facilities Department to prepare for the events. His colleagues praise his pleasant personality and his consistent enthusiasm and professionalism.
Last month, Rich assumed the responsibility of coordinating UNK's NCAA Division II football play-off game at Foster Field. He worked with both the visiting team and with the NCAA to guarantee that all regulations and requirements were met.
Because of his dedication to students, to colleagues, and to the wider UNK community, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is pleased to name Rich Brodersen as the Employee of the Month for December 2002.
