The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Cheryll Marr as the UNK Employee of the Month for August 2001.

Cheryll Marr has served as Credentials Supervisor/Secretary in the Office of Career Services at the University of Nebraska at Kearney since 1991. With the support of the entire office staff, Cheryll’s supervisor nominated her for Employee of the Month.

Cheryll is responsible for managing approximately 20,000 education credential files. In addition, she coordinates all office statistical reports, organizes the detailed arrangements for the annual Educator's Employment Fair, and monitors department policies and procedures. She promptly and efficiently processes resume referrals and job posting requests from school administrators, assists customers and office guests in person and on the telephone, and provides reliable grammar and punctuation critiques of all outgoing documents. Cheryll demonstrates her superb organizational skills and abilities to work well with customers - especially alumni and employers – on a daily basis. Utilizing her background in legal issues, she brings the Office of Career Services "up to speed" by providing outstanding annual reports and policy interpretation, particularly in regard to credential files and the release of information to employers.

For the last several years, Cheryll has assumed the responsibilities of arranging the annual Educator's Employment Fair that is held in March/April. She begins preparing for this very important event in October and spends countless hours updating mailing lists, developing advertising materials, updating website information, contracting with rental agencies, and coordinating departmental requirements. The Employment Fair attracts more than 100 school systems from nine different states to the UNK campus.

Cheryll is willing to assist whenever she is needed, whether or not a task is "her" job. She is a team player and, in many respects, a team leader. She leads by example, she adapts well to change, and she is constantly looking for ways to improve service areas. In addition, she is friendly and accommodating in all circumstances. Her patience, professional demeanor, and cordial, respectful manner provide a wonderful model for other team members to emulate.

Because of her superior contributions to the Office of Career Services and the entire campus community, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is proud to name Cheryll Marr as Employee of the Month for August 2001.
