The UNK Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee announces Alan Colling as the UNK Employee of the Month for July 2001.
Alan Colling has been a custodian at the University of Nebraska at Kearney since July 1991. He is a self-starter who always takes the initiative in the cleaning, moving, and repairing needs of the Department of Biology. He strives to do his best not only by working hard, but also by working "smart." Alan is a problem-solver who thinks through challenges and routinely makes maintenance and repair decisions that improve and enhance the operation of the department.
Alan's service was especially noteworthy during the early stages of renovation to the Bruner Hall of Science. He readily left his post in the Biology Department to assist and coordinate the move of the Chemistry Department from the fourth floor to the second floor. In addition, his service in the cleanup process following the removal of asbestos from the Bruner Hall of Science in December 2000 was admirable. In general, Alan gives the Biology area, and the Bruner Hall of Science in general, a true sparkle.
Faculty, students and co-workers note that Alan approaches each day with a positive attitude. He pays close attention to details and he is cheerful, congenial, and eager to help. Perhaps Alan's greatest commendation, however, is the pleasure that faculty find in a brief office or hallway visit with him as he diligently makes his rounds.
Because Alan Colling is a self-motivator, an excellent worker, and a pleasant person, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is pleased to name him Employee of the Month for July 2001.
