Carol Hines began working at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in the Facilities Department as a Facilities Operator in November 1987. She is currently the Management Control Systems Operator. In that position, Carol receives work orders for the Facilities Department and is the contact person for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning needs of the campus. Carol was instrumental in implementing the present work order process through the e-mail system. Carol is always on the front lines at the Facilities Department, where she processes work order requests from faculty, staff, and students, and responds to a host of concerns. Many would find Carol's job a thankless task, but she handles her duties competently and with poise.
In addition to her job duties, Carol has been involved with a number of organizations and committees within the University. They include the Staff Senate, the Office Service Advisory Council, the Frank House Advisory Committee, the NU Values Classification Project, numerous search committees for faculty and staff, and the collecting of funds for the annual University of Nebraska Foundation drive. She has also served as chair, vice chair and secretary for some of these groups. While serving as Chair of the Office Service Advisory Council, Carol was instrumental in creating what has become the yearly OSAC/Staff Senate Professional Development Day, a very successful and popular event for all staff.
Carol does not hesitate to take the lead in seeing that her job is done in a professional and timely manner. While following up on work orders to ensure their completion, she keeps her customers informed of the progress. Carol believes that the customer should be her first consideration. Even though she may be caught in the middle between field people and customers, she strives to keep open the lines of information and communication.
Carol Hine's involvement in many organizations and committees has benefited all faculty, staff and students at UNK. She is a superb problem solver who always keeps the best interests of the university uppermost in her mind. For those reasons, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is pleased to recognize Carol Hines as the Employee of the Month for November 1999.
