Julie Saalfeld has been with the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the Division of Continuing Education for 20 years.
Julie finds her position challenging as she never knows what new and expected issue will arise on any given day. She is, however, always equal to the task. Her daily activities may include dealing with students and faculty, overseeing the off-campus schedule, working on the budget, completing PAFs or assisting someone with a project. One of Julie's major undertakings is to oversee the production of the off-campus schedule. This includes collecting information, working with department chairs, setting copy on PageMaker, editing, acquiring printing bids, and distributing. This publication has evolved from a small, simple document into a sizeable, complex publication. Julie is responsible for many of its improvements. Her creativity is not limited to the off-campus schedule. She also has inspired and innovative ideas for the successful realization of many other important activities.
As the size of the Continuing Education staff increases, Julie Saalfeld continues to be that special team player who is willing to help others make meaningful contributions to the smooth functioning of this division. Julie is often included in brainstorming sessions on major projects, as her co-workers admire her professional acumen. Julie's 20 years of experience have given her a vast amount of knowledge and understanding of the UNK system. Thus, she is a valuable resource in helping the division make sound decisions.
Julie takes pride in her work and ensures that it is done accurately. Her "eye for detail" stands her in good stead when working with budgets, PAFs and off-campus schedules. Co-workers rely on her ability to catch errors.
Julie makes a noticeable contribution to the morale in her office. Many are drawn to Julie when a problem arises because she is a good listener who possesses outstanding analytical skills. Her capacity for looking at various factors, analyzing circumstances, discussing issues openly, and then, applying her sound judgment have earned her the title of "resident counselor".
Julie Saalfeld, a highly respected and valuable member of the Division of Continuing Education, enhances the univerisity's ability to deal effectively with off-campus populations. Therefore, the University of Nebraska at Kearney takes delight in naming her the Employee of the Month for October 1999.
