Colleen Parmenter has been the Duplicating Equipment Operator in the Founders Hall Copy Center since April 16, 1985. She has gained the respect and trust of colleagues and customers through her ability to learn new technology and respect the deadlines of those customers.
Colleen knows that the beginning and the end of a semester will mean a large volume of work, frequently expected to be done within a very short timeline and sometimes while the requester waits. Syllabus for classes, large packets, and final tests take considerable time to run during these peak times. Colleen often comes in early and stays late in order to complete the work required by academics. She also is diligent in notifying the campus community when she will be unavailable so that better planning can be done by all and last-minute crises are reduced.
Colleen works with people from all over the campus, and thus has many "bosses." She works with the campus bookstore in preparing class material packets, professors with book manuscripts, secretaries with departmental documents. She also assists people who use the smaller copy machine just outside her office. Colleen is a team player with the entire university.
Since she began employment at UNK nearly 15 years ago, Colleen's job has become increasingly more complicated due to the increasing sophistication of the equipment. Colleen is challenged, not intimated by technology. She has always excelled in learning the capabilities of her hardware and software to test the equipment in achieving the greatest performance of that equipment. It is not uncommon to see Colleen working one-on-one with individuals to produce a document which not only is an internal document, but can also represent the University nationally. She works with faculty who are publishing books, which can be a very exacting process. Colleen works cooperatively with the Print Shop in producing items such as the "UNK Communicator" resulting in a professional product. Colleen shares the special options available on her equipment that add the professional touch to documents.
In addition to the printing of documents, Colleen has billing responsibilities for her shop. She does this in an accurate manner. Colleen has used her creative abilities in making a pleasant workplace and in making suggestions to customers on how to improve their product.
Because of Colleen Parmenter's excellent job performance, and her ability to rise to the challenges that her job presents, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is pleased to name her the Employee of the Month for July 1999.
