The Employee Recognition Committee of Staff Senate is pleased to announce that David Peterson, Electrician in the Facilities Department, is Employee of the Month for May 1998.

David has been with UNK since August 1994. Since then, many people have learned to value his reliability in different ways. He is always more then willing to come in after hours to resolve emergency calls for electrical problems.

Dave's strong aptitude for making obsolete items continue to work until funding becomes available for replacement results in substantial savings to the university. Yet, when making these items "make do," he always ensures the safety and integrity of the out-of-date articles. His co-workers praise Dave for not taking on jobs he cannot do well and within code. Further, he is constantly improving his expertise by attending electrical code classes, often at his own expense and on his own time. This is yet another testimony to Dave's commitment to excellence and to the support he gives his co-workers in helping them to perform at their highest levels.

Three of David Peterson's greatest assets to the university are his ability to find the most economical price for a product, his skill at re-engineering or manufacturing a needed part, and his talent for locating salvaged parts. He is also knowledgeable about many areas of maintenance beyond his primary area of responsibility. His willingness to help others throughout the campus is a valued advantage to his associates whom he has helped with projects. In one month alone, Dave was involved in either the design, purchase of materials, or labor (sometimes all three) on the following electrical projects: Cushing pool pump, URS/URN generator battery charger timers, URS/URN generator auto start timers, Stout Hall Learning Center computer lines, and the Cope Foundation electrical system in addition to his numerous other responsibilities. Dave and his fellow electricians increased their number of completed service calls to 195 in the first nine weeks of 1998 compared to 136 in 1996 and 133 in 1997 in the same number of weeks.

Please join us in congratulating Dave Peterson for this well-deserved award. . . and watch for his picture at the Nebraskan Employee of the Month display.
