The Employee Recognition Committee of Staff Senate would like to congratulate the Fall Orientation Committee for the September 2003 Committee of the Month award.

The Fall Orientation Committee consists of volunteer staff, students, and faculty who annually coordinate activities for Blue and Gold Welcome Week. The committee identifies areas of need for new students and collaborates with different departments to organize a comprehensive fall orientation for new students as well as returning students.

In addition to planning and organizing the various events, the committee is also responsible for promoting Blue and Gold pride to new students, the UNK community and the Kearney community as well. The marketing begins early in the summer during Summer Advising and Enrollment and continues through August when the campus becomes alive with flyers and posters promoting the events. Two weeks prior to opening each new student and every department receives a detailed brochure of Blue and Gold Welcome Week events which invites and encourages involvement.

Participation at fall orientation events increased significantly this year with the addition of Fall Orientation leaders and the Residential and Greek Life Resident Advisors. These outstanding leaders showed tremendous energy and motivation in helping promote the events and especially in being available to escort our new students to events. The positive attitude of our returning students does much to set the mood for new students and helps Loper pride to prevail.
