The Employee Recognition Committee of Staff Senate would like to congratulate the Psychology Department for the November 2002 Department of the Month award.
The Psychology Department is an extremely active department. In October, the Department hosted a Psychology Fair with high school students and their instructors invited to attend. Over 530 students and instructors from 38 high schools were in attendance. These students met not only with the psychology department but with a wide variety of individuals from across the UNK campus. All department faculty and 149 UNK psychology students participated either through the 50-60 displays or the demonstrations.
The Department hosted a Career Day open to the entire campus and invited psychology department alumni to speak. Speakers included Curt Coffman, influential speaker, author and senior consultant for the Gallup Organization; Angela Gregg, counselor at the First Baptist Church; and Michele Smith, education specialist at the SAFE Center.
October continued to be a busy month for this department as they assisted with the Majors Fair on October 5th, the Scholars Recognition Day sponsored by the Honors Program on October 7th, and the Health Careers Fair on October 9th.
The department will be hosting the 23rd Annual Great Plains Student's Psychology Convention on March 14-15, 2003. This event will bring more than 400 students from universities/colleges in Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and Oklahoma to the UNK campus. 150-200 students will be giving presentations while at the conference.
Because of the dedication to students, to colleagues and to the wider UNK community, the University of Nebraska at Kearney is pleased to name the Psychology Department its Department of the Month for November 2002.
