The Employee Recognition Committee of the Staff Senate of UNK is proud to announce the selection of the Office of Residential and Greek Life as February's recipient of the Department of the Month Award.
The Office of Residential and Greek Life has been chosen for the Department of the Month Award because of their commitment to the students, positive influence on campus, team attitude and support of staff and faculty.
Residential and Greek Life has a staff of approximately 150, including the Central Administrative Staff; Hall Directors (graduate students) and Assistant Hall Directors; Resident Advisors (undergraduate students); Facilities Staff - Maintenance, Custodial and Paint; and Clerical Staff. They house approximately 2000 students in eight traditional residence halls, two Greek complexes and one married student housing complex.
RGL has extensive interaction with other on-campus departments. They provide Learning Communities for students in Education and Business to live in close proximity to one another in the residence halls; and have a hall for the students involved in the Honors Program on campus.
The Office of Residential & Greek Life houses 9 of the 11 Greek letter organizations. They work with 4 sororities and 7 fraternities at UNK to provide leadership development, education on social issues, risk management programming, scholarship programs, new member development, public relations, judicial board training, etc. In addition they assist the chapters in recruitment and retention efforts both within their organizations and on behalf of UNK. The Office of Residential and Greek Life fosters collaborative working relationships with alumni advisors and the alumni corporation boards as well.
The UNK Staff Senate and its Employee Recognition Committee congratulate the Office of Residential and Greek Life for providing service and support for student individual needs and expectations, and for their dedication on empowering individuals to develop an appreciation of diversity, ethical standards and coherent values. We are proud to award them Department of the Month for February 2002.
