The Employee Recognition Committee of the Staff Senate of UNK is proud to announce the selection of the Counseling and School Psychology Department as January's recipient of the Department of the Month Award.
The Department of the Month Award was initiated by the committee and Staff Senate as a way to recognize each month a department on campus that stands out in a positive way, be it for sponsoring an event, providing excellent service, exercising teamwork, showing unique initiative, or for other beneficial reasons.
When the Chair of Counseling and School Psychology left on temporary Medical Leave before school started in August, the Department pulled together and divided up his responsibilities. Julie Dinsmore and Max McFarland volunteered to co-chair the Department. Adjunct professors, Dr. Karen Hazen and Robert Bednar were hired to cover the classes, and the secretary, Cel Davis, has taken over a lot of his responsibilities to keep the office running smoothly. Cel keeps the absent Chair abreast of the department and campus business by delivering communications and well-wishes and by posting his updates to the campus community.
It is for this spirit of dedication and by upholding the University’s commitment to excellence that the Staff Senate Employee Recognition Committee awards Counseling and School Psychology the Department of the Month award for January 2002.
