The Employee Recognition Committee of the Staff Senate of UNK is proud to announce the selection of the Student Health Services as September's recipient of the Department of the Month Award.
Student Health Services' mission is to provide on-campus health and wellness care to the students of UNK. SHS aims to support undergraduate and graduate students in their educational pursuits by providing care by fully licensed, qualified and experienced medical personnel and efficient, capable and cooperative support staff. Staff members work together to offer confidential, easily accessible, high quality and low cost care for illness and injury. Student Health Services strives to keep students well through individualized education about good health practices, by monitoring and providing vaccination against vaccine- preventable disease, and by providing testing and treatment for communicable disease. The department strives to educate students that pursuit of good health is a lifelong goal and encourages development of positive health behaviors, which includes effective self-care for managing health problems and being a discerning health care consumer.
Some of the services Student Health Services provide include health and injury care; flu-vaccination clinics for staff and students; free HIV testing; private consultations regarding health care issues and questions; along with educational programs across campus.
For their innovations and for all they do in the regular course of their work, the UNK Staff Senate and its Employee Recognition Committee congratulate the Student Health Services for a job well done and for upholding the university's commitment to excellence.
