The Department of the Month Award was initiated by the Employee Recognition Committee and Staff Senate as a way to recognize each month a department on campus that stands out in a positive way, be it for sponsoring an event, providing excellent service, exercising teamwork, showing unique initiative, or for other beneficial reasons.
For the past three years, the Chemistry Department has sponsored the annual UNK Adventures in Chemistry Camp held in the summer for the high school juniors and seniors. The camp allows students to conduct lab projects, to have hands-on use of instrumentation, to work one-on-one with chemistry faculty, to take field trips to local chemical industries, to learn about UNK's Chemistry Program, and to just have fun! The camp has become incredibly popular, filling to capacity each year. It has also become an innovative recruitment tool for the UNK Chemistry Program. This is to recognize all of the work that goes into sponsoring the camp and for all the work the Chemistry Department does on a routine basis.
For all their hard work and for all they do in the regular course of their work, the UNK Staff Senate and its Employee Recognition Committee congratulate the Department of Chemistry for a job well done and for upholding the university's commitment to excellence.
