With spring semester in full swing and
your eye on graduLouie Loper at graduationation, several things may come to mind—whether landing your dream job or applying to graduate school. One thing that cannot be overlooked is your application for graduation, which is due by February 1, along with other important details for finishing your degree.

The University of Nebraska at Kearney provides resources and guidance on how to apply for graduation or begin looking for a job. We’ve compiled a list of these resources and tips for those planning to graduate this spring semester.

Graduation Preparation and Application

If you haven’t already done so, you will need to fill out your May graduation application by February 1 through MyBlue. It’s important to notify your advisor that you’re planning to graduate so they can do a thorough Degree Audit to ensure you’re on track to graduate this semester. You should also request a Senior Check from the Registrar’s Office. Ideally, this should be completed a semester or two before you plan to graduate to assist you in determining what you have left to prepare for graduation.

Beginning Your Job Search

The Office of Academic Advising and Career Development offers job search tools to help you find a job after graduation. These resources are accessible to online students and include resume building, interview tips, links to job search sites and much more. You can also take advantage of Handshake, a tool that is available using your UNK username/password that will provide access to job opportunities, event invitations and resources specifically matching your career interests.

Is Graduate School in Your Future?

If you’re planning to continue your education after graduating, there are also decisions to make and deadlines to meet. The Office of Academic Advising and Career Development has excellent tips on the application process as well as resources to help you decide if now is the time to enroll. You can also see the Graduate Admissions website to learn about UNK’s available on-campus or online graduate programs.

Career & Graduate School Fair

As an online student, you can also utilize career fair resources available to on-campus students. The upcoming Career & Graduate School Fair on Thursday, February 7 is an excellent opportunity for those who can travel to Kearney, Nebraska. If attending in person is not an option, a list of school and employer options can help you connect with the same employers and graduate schools from the on-campus event.
