International Literacy Day: September 8thEmpowering teachers, students, and leaders to help make literacy possible for everyone is the purpose of International Literacy Day, held September 8—and it’s also the foundation of the online Reading PK-12 master’s degree at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Improving literacy often starts in the classroom, where credentialed teachers in Reading PK-12 can identify where, how, and why students may be struggling with reading. They then facilitate instructional strategies to help students become stronger and more confident readers.

UNK’s 36-credit-hour online Master of Arts in Education in Reading PK-12 prepares educators for professional certification with a Reading PK-12 endorsement in the state of Nebraska. But beyond that, it enables Nebraska’s educators—whether classroom or resource teachers, reading specialists, or school administrators—to improve literacy locally and thus contribute toward an increasingly literate world. More teachers equipped with the methodologies to improve reading make literacy more accessible and attainable for all.
