College of Education Forum on Excellence in Teaching and Research

The College of Education Forum on Excellence in Teaching and Research held its first meeting on September 30th and featured a teaching presentation on Collaboration in Online Learning: Tips and Strategies for Engaging Learners by Dr. Martonia Gaskill, Teacher Education; and a research presentation on Creating Student Research Groups Online and On-campus by Dr. Matt Mims, Counseling and School Psychology.

COE ForumA critical factor to student success in any learning environment is the skill set faculty bring to the educational experience regardless of the title attached to their name. The demands of the 21st century teaching and learning frameworks, the science of teaching is rapidly evolving around innovation, technology and creativity. Considering the demands placed on faculty in the fast evolving teaching and learning ecosystem, professional development and growth is vital in higher education. It becomes essential that faculty provide students with the highest quality teaching and learning experience by integrating the latest techniques endorsed by research.  When integrating research with teaching, faculty can maximize student success and scholarship opportunities in unique and productive ways.

The COE Excellence in Teaching and Research Forum goals include

  1. Encourage innovative teaching practices in both face to face and online learning settings;
  2. Encourage discussions on teaching and learning among faculty from various disciplines and departments;
  3. Promote dissemination of research and encourage cross discipline collaboration on research projects;
  4. Encourage professional networking among faculty researchers and teaching faculty from different colleges and departments.
  5. Promote a culture of sharing and collaboration in the College of Education and beyond.

Forum Monthly Meetings

The COE Excellence in Teaching and Research Forum meets monthly in COE Room 155. UNK Faculty and staff are welcome to attend. The next Forum meeting will be on Friday, October 28th from 11:00 am to Noon. Join us for fellowship on teaching and research with your UNK colleagues.

Call for Presentations
We're requesting presentation proposals for the upcoming monthly meetings.  Please consider sharing your teaching successes, tips, etc. and/or your creative research project. Please submit your presentation information using this online form. We look forward to receiving your submissions.
