All Accounting and Finance Students:
~ Complete your Math requirement during your freshman year if at all possible.
~ Take your Introductory Accounting sequence, BACC 205/251, during your sophomore year.
Employers expect involvement in campus and community activities. Student and community organizations are great places to develop your leadership skills – GET INVOLVED!!
Internships provide students with the opportunity to put their academic knowledge to practical use in the workplace. We encourage you to investigate Internship opportunities. Contact the Internship Director, Mary Ann Lawson at 865-8979.
Accounting Students:
~ Take your Intermediate Accounting sequence, BACC 305/351, during your junior year.
~ Join the Accounting Society at the start of your Junior year.
~ Accounting firms interview and hire early in the fall. You must have your resume prepared and be ready to interview at the beginning of the fall semester of your Senior year.
~ Discuss Certification opportunities, such as the CPA, CMA, or CIA with your advisor.
~ A minimum of 125 hours are required to graduate from UNK. If you wish to become a CPA, you must have at least 150 hours of coursework to take the CPA Exam. Consult your advisor if you plan to take the CPA Exam for options on obtaining the additional coursework.
Finance Students:
~ Take your Principles of Finance course, BFIN 308, in the fall semester of your Junior year.
~ Take Corporate Finance, BFIN 408, in the spring semester of your Junior year.
~ Join the Finance Club.
~ Discuss Certification opportunities with your advisor.
Graduate (MBA) Tips:
Students who plan to pursue the MBA Degree should refer to the UNK Graduate Catalog for Admission Requirements and contact the MBA Office for specific information. Students may wish to apply for a Graduate Assistantship position. All students seeking admittance to the MBA program must take the GMAT exam. Students planning to obtain an MBA with a Concentration in Accounting should plan to take it during their senior year of undergraduate studies.
