The Department of Accounting and Finance provides University of Nebraska at Kearney students with the accounting, finance, and legal environmental knowledge necessary to compete in ethical, productive careers in a changing, competitive, increasingly global and technological business environment. The Department is committed to quality in the areas of teaching, research, and service. If you are considering a rewarding career in accounting or finance you should choose to be one of our students.

The Department offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance. In addition, UNK offers a Master of Business Administration degree, with a concentration in accounting. If you become a student of our program, you will enjoy the benefits of:

  • an excellent, comprehensive education that prepares you for a professional career;
  • a friendly department, campus, and community that appreciates you as a UNK student.

In our department, you will benefit from a very personal learning environment where there are only 16 students for each faculty member. Our highly-qualified caring faculty will teach you in reasonably-sized classes and advise you personally on how to reach your educational and career goals.

Why choose us?

As a UNK business student in the Department of Accounting and Finance, you will have many alternatives to choose from in order to best meet your interests and abilities. For example, in addition to the General Studies Program and the Business Core Courses, you will select an area of specialization, i.e., an Accounting or Finance Emphasis, which may lead to very exciting, challenging and rewarding career opportunities. UNK also offers a Master of Business Administration degree, with a concentration in accounting.

Students are instructed, advised, and mentored by professionals who not only have high quality academic preparation, but also have practical experience within their profession. The department prides itself on providing a quality educational experience for its students that combines academic rigor with personal attention. The department offers an accounting and finance lab for students needing additional assistance and class sizes typically range from 10-40. Currently the department sponsors two student organizations, the Accounting Society and the Financial Leaders Association. Both of these student organizations provide opportunities to network with professionals in their respective fields, develop leadership skills,

and provide service to the community. The Accounting Society annually assists individuals with their tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, has helped with Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army food drives, Red Cross blood drives and the Careers in Accounting Program where students visit area high schools and make presentations about UNK. The Financial Leaders Association annually takes a trip to a metropolitan financial district in Chicago and in Spring 2005 went to New York City.
