October 12, 2010 - "Apocalypto" 

The ADP is pleased to support the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the SKINS student organization in the following event: Movie Night - "Apocalypto," Multicultural Center, Nebraskan Student Union at 8:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the SKINS student organization and is free and open to all faculty, staff and students. Refreshments will be provided. Apocalypto is a 2007 film directed by Mel Gibson. It is rated R for graphic violence. The film is in the Mayan language with English subtitles. The film is about the Mayan people of ancient Mexico who fought for freedom during the 16th century. See http://video.movies.go.com/apocalypto/

February 10, 2011 - "How to Eat Meat When Your Beak is Built for Sweet"

Times Talk at 12:15 p.m. - Dr. Gregor Yanega, Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center (NESCent), Room 310 of the Nebraskan Student Union, Free Pizza and Pop provided by the NY Times - Sponsored by the NY Times and ADP 

Dr. Yanega is an ornithologist and evolutionary biologist working to integrate facets of behavior, morphology, and ecology to understand the evolution of feeding in birds.  He is interested in how certain morphological structures- like beaks- are called upon to perform a wide range of functions, and he will be talking about this kind of tension in function using the hummingbird beak as an example. He uses tools from physics, natural history, behavior, and phylogenetic comparative biology to address a fundamental question in organismal biology: where's the next meal coming from, and how do I catch it?
