  • Appointed 9th Chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Kearney in July 2002
  • Previously held elected position of Nebraska State Senator, 1989-2002.  At the time he retired from office, was the longest serving Speaker of the Legislature.
  • Practiced law and was a partner in the law firm of Lieske & Kristensen (Minden, Nebraska) at the time he held political office.
  • Has directed extensive residential renewal at UNK, including construction of Antelope and Nester Halls; refurbishing Men’s, Randall and Mantor Halls; Cope Stadium/Foster Field project; upgrades to Central Utilities Plant and to campus dining facilities; landscape improvements; renovation of Bruner Hall of Science.  
  • Among current memberships: Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Presidents Council; NCAA Division II Academic Requirements Committee; Nebraska Information Technology Committee; Platte Valley State Bank and Trust Company Board of Directors; Economic Development Council of Buffalo County Board of Directors; Museum of Nebraska Art Board of Directors; Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
  • Previous service includes National Vice President of the National Conference of State Legislatures; Nebraska Constitutional Review Commission; Chair of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Presidents Council.
  • Received baccalaureate degree (Economics/Political Science) from University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Doctor of Jurisprudence from Drake University. 
  • Chancellor Kristensen and wife, District Judge Terri S. Harder, have two daughters, Morgan and Paige.
