Dr.
Jody Van Laningham is an Assistant Professor who joined the Social Work program
at UNK in 2008. She received the Ph.D.
in Sociology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with emphases in Research
Methods and Marriage & Family Studies. She also earned her MS in Sociology
from UNL and her BA in Sociology and Business Administration from Doane College. Prior to joining the Social Work Program she
held a position as a social worker with the Missouri Division of Family
Services and most recently served as Lecturer in the UNK Department of
Sociology. Her previous experience also includes positions as a statistical
programmer/analyst for the Bureau of Sociological Research at UNL, and as an
Instructor at UNL and Doane College. She also has served as a volunteer Court
Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children. Dr. Van Laningham
is currently teaching Human Behavior in the Social Environment (I and II) and
Fundamentals of Research in Social Welfare. She has also taught Child Welfare,
Child Abuse and Neglect, Social Welfare Policy, and Human Services Ethics &
Experience. Dr. Van Laningham’s primary research interests include marital
quality over the life course, child abuse and neglect, and child welfare
policy.
