Dr. Eunkyung Son

Biography

Son recently moved to Kearney to work as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Cello/ Bass and Director of String Project at the University of Nebraska - Kearney for the 2017-18 academic year. She will also join Kearney Symphony Orchestra for this season.

She served as faculty members at Music Academy, Central College, Pella, IA (2015-2016), the Five Seasons Chamber Music Festival in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (2014-2016), and Cello Summer Camp, Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL (2015). Son also taught at Illinois State University and the University of Iowa as a Teaching Assistant, and Marion Music Academy as a Cello Instructor.

Son has performed recitals and chamber concerts in Korea, Japan and the United States including Illinois, Kentucky, New-York, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Iowa. Son was a member of Center for New Music at the University of Iowa and New Music Ensemble 319. She is a found member and music director of Music Sharing Project since 2016.

Son is a member of Seoul S Chamber Orchestra, Korea since 2017. As an orchestra musician, she has performed with the Kentucky University Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Ohio Light Opera, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Singers of Iowa City, Joffrey Ballet, Orchestra Iowa, and Dubuque Symphony Orchestra.

Son holds Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Cello Performance and Pedagogy and Orchestral Conducting (secondary area) at the University of Iowa. She received MM from Illinois State University, and BM from Chung-Ang University (Korea). This Summer, she awarded Grand Prize of the Human Leader from Public & Government Service in Seoul, South Korea.
