Dr. David Bauer

Biography

Dr. Bauer has enjoyed a career of over 45 years as a professional educator and choral conductor.  He is the director of choirs at UNK, directing the Choraleers (Concert Choir), Vocal Collegium (Chamber Choir), Caelestis Cantores  (Women’s Choir), and the Statesmen (Men’s Choir).  He also teaches MUS 407 – Choral Conducting, team teaches “Music Education”, and maintains a voice studio.  He is an active adjudicator and guest conductor, appearing in festivals in Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Alabama.  He was appointed to the position he presently holds at UNK in 1984. Dr. Bauer earned a B.M.Ed. from Fort Hays State University, where he studied voice and conducting with Dr. Donald Stout, an M.M. Ed. From the University of Missouri at Kansas City Conservatory of Music, and an Ed.D. from Arizona State University, where he studied conducting with Dr. Douglas McEwen.  He has studied conducting post graduate with Maestro Helmut Rilling (Oregon Bach Festival), Maestro Ron Entleutner (Amici Musicae in Leipzig), Rene Clausen (Concordia College summer workshop), and through observation, lecture demonstrations, and independent tutelage while attending nearly every national and regional ACDA convention since their independent inception in 1971 (Kansas City). Dr. & Mrs. Bauer were invited to prepare and sing the Brahms Requiem with Amici Musicae in the St. Thomas Kirche,  Leipzig (2012).

Dr. Bauer was appointed Director of the Chancel Choir of the Kearney First United Methodist Church in January 1986, a position he continues to enjoy.  Ann, his spouse of 46 years, is now a retired choral director who continues to serve as the organist at the Kearney First United Methodist Church---a position she has held continuously since 1984.  Dr. & Mrs. Bauer have five adult children who have blessed them with sixteen grandchildren.
