Business Computer Proficiency Exam

MIS 302 Pre-Requisite

Attention Prospective Students of MIS 302:

The pre-requisite for MIS 302 is a passing score of 70% or greater on the Business Computer Proficiency Exam, also known as the Microsoft Office Proficiency Exam, or successful completion of MIS 182.  Previously, the exam consisted of multiple choice questions tests covering Word, PowerPoint, Excel Fundamentals, and Excel Intermediate.

This spring, we are excited to offer students the Proficiency Exam in the form of a hands-on skills based exam for Word and Excel through Certiport.  Certiport’s Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is the leading IT certification in the world, with more than 1 million MOS exams given within one year in over 140 countries.

The CBT has periodic focus groups where employers have an opportunity to provide the college with feedback on our strengths and weaknesses.  One of the comments we hear the most is that college graduates are not as proficient in the ability to use basic office productivity tools as employers would like.

You can demonstrate you have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to productively add value for an employer.  MOS enables you to tap the full features and functionality of the Microsoft Office system, resulting in heightened levels of individual performance, confidence, and differentiation using our internationally recognized exam.

The cost for the exam is $30.  The testing is in two parts, covering Word and Excel.  Each part takes approximately 50 minutes to complete.  The passing score for each is still 70% or better.  The schedule for spring 2014 will be as follows:

Spring Semester              March 31 – April 25, 2014

The tests will cover the following material Word 2010 Core Items and Excel 2010 Core Items; here are
the Microsoft study guides for Word 2010 and Excel 2010.

Please stop by the Marketing & MIS Department’s office in West Center 400C to pay for the exam.  At that time you’ll set an appointment for your exam.
