Business Computer Proficiency Exam

MIS 302 Prerequisite

Attention Prospective Students of MIS 302:

The College of Business and Technology (CBT) has periodic focus groups where employers have an opportunity to provide the college with feedback on our strengths and weaknesses. One of the comments we hear the most is that college graduates are not as proficient in the ability to use basic office productivity tools as employers would like. As a result, passing the Business Computer Proficiency Exam, or successfully completing MIS 182, is required prior to enrolling in MIS 302.

The current method of test is the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) exams offered through Certiport, a global leader in testing. The MOS exams are hands-on, skills-based assessments for Microsoft Office products. The exams we will use cover core skills in Word 2013 and Excel 2013. Details about the core skills validated by the exam are found here for Word and here for Excel. You can plan on the exam taking approximately one hour to complete each test. The cost to take the exams is $30.

To schedule an exam, based upon the available times, and submit your payment email Deb Nourse at or stop by the Marketing & MIS Department, West Center 400C. Cash, check, or credit card are accepted as forms of payment.

The testing for 2014-15 is: October 22 - November 21, 2014 and January 12 - March 19, 2015. Signing up one week prior to the exam date is recommended as scheduled times may be canceled if no students have signed up one week in advance.
