Attention Prospective Students of MIS 302:
The pre-requisite for MIS 302 is a passing score of 70% on the business computer proficiency known also as the Microsoft office proficiency exam or MIS 182. The exam is offered to students as an opportunity to prove they have the computer skills or knowledge required for the upper level business courses. Students will have one chance to take it free. If they fail, and wish to re-take the exam, the cost will be $35. They will need to contact me in order to apply and pay for the exam on-line. If they are unable to pass the exam they paid to re-take, they'll need to enroll in MIS 182, Software Productivity Tools.
The testing is in four parts, covering Word, PowerPoint, Excel Fundamentals, and Excel Intermediate. Each exam takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and are in the form of multiple choice questions. There are no computers in use during the exam. The testing schedule for the 2013 academic year is as follows:
Fall Semester October 17 – November 9, 2012
Spring Semester March 25 – April 19, 2013
The test will be given by appointment only on M-W-F 8:00 – 9:00 AM and T-Th 11:00 – 12:15 PM. My contact information is listed below.
If you would like information to review in preparation for the testing, study guides are available below. Workshops on Word, PowerPoint, and Excel are offered by IT Services at no cost, which may be useful but are by no means a review of the exam material. Search for them on their home page: http://www.unk.edu/offices/ITS/Home/ at the lower left corner click on Technology Training, then Workshop Registration.
If you are a distance student or just need help working this into your schedule, please contact me.
