Agricultural Census 1987 by Zip Code: Agriculture Specialty Publications and 1987 Public Use Files on CD-ROM
1. What is it?
A statistical CD-ROM containing information about farms throughout the United States, arranged by ZIP Code. (The ZIP code file is one of several on the disc.) There is information from 1978, 1982, and 1987. For example, you can look up how many farms there are, how much wheat they grow, and whether the amount increased or decreased in the last decade.
(See also 1987 Agriculture Census, State and County Data, a separate CD-ROM).
2. Who produces it?
U.S. Commerce Department, Census Bureau.
3. Are there guides to using it?
There is a technical documentation manual, C 3. 277: Ag 8/2/987/spec. doc.

There is a new Census of Agriculture every five years; it is done in years ending in "2" and "7". The library has several CD's from the 1992 agricultural census. Newer censuses are online: http://www.agcensus.usda.gov/index.asp
