  • netLibrary

The Library has a small collection of books available in electronic format! There are several ways to access these books. If the book is available in a digital format, an icon which links to the book’s content appears in the catalog listing.

To find titles available in electronic format, from the Library home page, roll over “Collections/Catalog.”  In the submenu that opens, click on “Other Catalogs.” Then click on netLibrary. Browse the collection by clicking on the “List all Resources” button. Page through a book using navigation buttons, or jump around through the content using hyperlinks from the table of contents and index to the desired location in the work. Search for keywords and concepts using text tools, instead of browsing.

Once you have clicked on the book, it is yours for the session (no need to go to the circulation desk). When you close it, it goes back into circulation. All this from the any computer, anywhere, with access to the Internet!

  • Biographical information in LexisNexis Academic

LexisNexis Academic’s “People” section provides access to full-text biographies and people-related news from a variety of sources.  Select “People” from the top banner. Search for biographies in the fields of art, politics, business, law, entertainment, government, and state governments.  Some international (European, Russian) sources are included.

Clicking on the small “i” icon to the right of the “Sources” search box will show a list of indexed sources.  Well-known ones include the New York Times and Washington PostObituaries are also indexed. The left side of the screen offers assistance in searching for elected officials, people associated with a particular industry, and obituaries.

Select L/N Academic from the Library’s Articles and Research Information – General Indexes…" menu.

  • Project Muse

If you are searching for topics in the humanities and social science fields, try using Project Muse. You may be able to obtain more information than you would from a general index.

The Library currently subscribes to over 80 online databases that provide online materials to students, staff and faculty.  Project Muse searches humanities and social science journals and gives PDF and 100% full-text articles to the researcher.  These journals are heavily indexed and peer-reviewed.  This database could be used to search for topics that are not returning articles in the other databases such as “Gay and lesbian treatment during World War II.” Project Muse is located under the "Articles and Research Information – General Indexes…" menu.
