  • Non-English Language News Sources

LexisNexis Academic provides access to non-English language news sources from a number of countries.

On the Library’s home page under “Articles and Research Information,” select “General Indexes to All Subjects,” then L/N Academic. Next, select “News” in the top banner.  By “Sources,” select “Non-English Language News, World Library.”

Searches may be done of the whole set or a single source may be selected.  Well-known newspapers and other news sources are in languages including French, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and others.  The full-text of articles is available.

  • Naxos Music Library

The Ryan Library subscribes to the Naxos Music Library (NLM).  With streaming access to more than 25,600 CDs, the Naxos Music Library is the world’s largest online classical music library.  On average, about 500 new CDs are added to the library every month. The Library subscribes to only the classical genre, the largest by far. At least a few selections are available in most of the others from the “Genres” link.

To access the Naxos Music Library, from the Library’s Web site, mouse over “Collections / Catalog”, then “Virtual Resources”, and click on the “Humanities” link.  The Library purchased a ten-user license, so please exit Naxos by clicking the red Log-Out button at the top of the screen.  Also, because several music classes are using Naxos, please do not listen for extended periods of time.

  • Library Services for UNK Distance Learners

Calvin T. Ryan Library provides access to information and research materials for the UNK community including UNK distance students.  UNK distance students are encouraged to use the Library’s databases as well as the virtual reference and book collections. Information about accessing resources from off-campus is available at:  http://rosi.unk.edu/screens/offcamp.html.

Reference and research assistance are available to UNK distance students through the Library’s “Ask Us 24/7” email and chat reference service. UNK distance students can also call the Library Reference Desk at 308.865.8586 or toll-free at 866.454.4865.  eCampus Librarian Sheryl Heidenreich (heidenreichs@unk.edu, 308.865.8721) or UNK liaison librarians are available to provide assistance to UNK distance faculty and students.

UNK distance students may order journal articles that are not available electronically in full-text or books from the Library’s circulating collection through the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery service. There is no charge for journal articles and these are delivered electronically to UNK distance students’ Interlibrary Loan accounts.  Books are shipped via U.S. mail and UNK distance students are responsible for return postage.
