The Library has subscribed to BioOne.2.
BioOne.2 is a full text collection of peer reviewed, bioscience journals. A list of the 49 titles currently in this collection can be found at http://www.bioone.org/pdf/BioOne.2titlelist.pdf. More titles will be added through 2008.
In addition to BioOne.2, BioOne - a not-for-profit corporation created by scientific societies, libraries, academe, and private companies as an alternative to commercial publishing - produces BioOne.1 with 86 titles, to which the Library also subscribes, and a collection 8 of open access titles. Even though most BioOne journals are published by small societies and noncommercial publishers, they are "big" science; the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) ranked 81 (68%) of BioOne's 126 titles in its 2006 Journal Citation Report.
All BioOne titles are indexed by, and their full text linked from, the Biological and Medical Sciences index. To access this index go to the Library's homepage(http://library.unk.edu), then to Find Articles, and then to Natural Sciences and Technology. On this same menu BioOne can be searched as a stand-alone collection through BioOne Abstracts and Indexes. Other Library databases, such as Academic OneFile and Academic Search Premier, also index, and link to, many BioOne journals.
For more information on BioOne go to http://www.bioone.org.
To learn more about open access go to http://www.doaj.org (the Directory of Open Access Journals).
