Interlibrary loan/document delivery (ILL/DD) is a service provided to all UNK faculty, students, and staff to support their research and instructional needs.
Distance Education students (UNK students currently enrolled at locations other than the Kearney campus or in online programs) may request material from the Calvin T. Ryan Library Collection as well as from other libraries.
Before submitting an ILL/DD request, check the library catalog to make sure Calvin T. Ryan Library does not own the item being requested. If you need assistance using the library catalog please contact one of the following:
Reference Desk - 308. 865.8586 or (toll free) 864.454.4865
24/7 Email and chat at - QuestionPoint
ILL/DD Office – 308. 865.8721 or 308. 865.8594 or loperloan@unk.edu
Go to the ILLiad logon page and enter your Lotus Notes user name and password. If you have already registered as an ILLiad ILL/DD user you will be directed to the request forms page. If you have not registered as an ILLiad ILL/DD user please complete the required registration form and you will then be directed to the request forms page.
Please fill out request forms as completely as possible. Information that is not given, or that is incorrect, may delay a request or result in a request being returned to you unfilled.
There is a limit of 10 requests per person per week. If you submit more than 10 requests in one week please indicate, in the "notes" box on the request form, which requests you want filled first so we can process your requests in the order you wish to receive them. We will fill orders over the 10 limit as quickly as possible depending on our current workload.
The following types of materials may be requested through ILL/DD: books, microforms, photocopies of journal or magazine articles, government documents, and musical scores.
Depending on the availability from lending libraries, ILL/DD may be able to obtain the following materials: masters theses, doctoral dissertations, and audiovisual materials (videos, audio recordings, etc.).
Materials not available through ILL/DD include: reference books, textbooks, newspapers, entire issues or volumes of journals or magazines, rare or fragile items, archive materials, and genealogical materials.
Please note that when requesting photocopies of journal or magazine articles the ILL/DD staff must adhere to current copyright laws.
Please plan ahead when using ILL/DD service. Requests are processed, Monday through Friday, in the order received. Generally requests are filled in 7 to 10 days, however, some requests may take longer to fill. The amount of time needed for each request to be filled depends on the type of material requested, the availability of the material, and the lending library location.
Calvin T. Ryan Library pays for all costs associated with ILL/DD service so there is no charge to UNK faculty, students, and staff. ILL/DD reserves the right to limit the amount spent on any request.
E-mail notifications will be sent when:
· Material is available for pick up at the Circulation Desk.
· Material is available for web delivery.
· Material requested is available from the Calvin T. Ryan Library collections.
· The ILL/DD staff has a question about a request.
· A request cannot be filled.
Please be sure to provide a valid e-mail address when registering for ILLiad ILL/DD service. We strongly urge you to use your UNK Lotus notes e-mail address. ILL/DD cannot be responsible for e-mail messages not received by non-UNK e-mail addresses.
Books and some journal/magazine articles requested by Distance Education students will be sent via U.S. Mail. Distance Education students are responsible for returning books to the Calvin T. Ryan Library by the specified due date.
Loan periods, generally 2 to 4 weeks, are assigned by the lending library. Occasionally the lending library may also assign special restrictions to materials such as "in library use only" or "no photocopies".
ILL/DD materials cannot be renewed.
Overdue fines will be charged on ILL/DD materials.
Photocopies do not need to be returned.
ILL/DD materials should be returned on or before the due date to the Circulation Desk. Photocopies do not need to be returned.
