Policies

The following policies are required of all Honors students in order to remain in good standing in the UNK Honors Program:

  • All Honors students must enroll in at least one Honors course each semester.  Permission from one of the Honors Directors must be procured if an Honors student does not enroll in an Honors course in any given semester.
  • All Honors students must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA in order to remain in good standing in the UNK Honors Program.  If an Honors student’s GPA drops below this minimum, the student will be given at least one semester to improve his/her GPA, after consultation with one of the Honors Directors.
  • All Honors students must maintain at least a 3.2 GPA in their Honors courses in order to receive Honors credit.
  • Advising is required for all UNK students.   Honors students who have a declared major(s) should meet with their departmental based advisor(s).  The departmental advisor(s) will remove the advising hold.  Deciding majors can either visit with the Honors Director or Associate Director as well as visit with the Academic and Career Services Office (http://www.unk.edu/ACS/academicadvising/) for academic advice and for removal of advising holds.  Early registration will not be allowed unless all registration holds have been removed.
  • Honors Registration Day is on Wednesday, April 4, 2012.  Honors Registration Day begins at 7:00 a.m., and lasts until 12:00 midnight.  Only those students who have complied with the Advising policy and returned their signed Department Advising Form will be allowed to register on this day.
  • 3.75+ is the cumulative GPA range for currently enrolled Honors students to be considered for Honors scholarships, from their second-semester freshmen year and beyond.
  • All Honors students must complete the 18-hour Honors credit hours requirements (9 hours of Honors General Studies, at least 3 Honors Options or 9 hours, with one H-option serving as the Honors Senior Study). Students must submit the Honors Senior Study in order to complete the Honors Program. The 9 hours must be part of the official UNK transcript.
  • Transfer students who are admitted to the UNK Honors Program may have the 18-hour Honors credit minimum reduced, especially in the Honors general studies requirements, depending upon how many credit hours they may have already completed at their former university or college. Any reductions in Honors credit hour requirements must be negotiated with and approved by the Honors Directors.
