The Campus Connection Program: Freshmen Mentoring

In addition to the support system of the Honors Program itself, and that of Honors Residence Hall living, is the Campus Connection Program, or the mentoring program for incoming Honors freshmen. Honors student volunteers from the sophomore, junior, and senior ranks are connected to incoming freshmen, usually in the same or comparable majors, in order to help incoming freshmen adjust to UNK life and life within the Honors Program.  Upper-class Honors student mentors are assigned to and contact their incoming freshmen mentees in the fall semester, and then continue this contact throughout the freshmens' first year in the Honors Program.  Traditionally, Campus Connection events are in the new fall semester to allow the mentors to meet the new freshmen, and the new freshmen to meet each other. Periodically throughout the fall and spring semesters, other social events are held to continue the bond created between the mentors and the freshmen. This is to ensure that all incoming Honors freshmen know at least one upper class Honors student to ask questions of and get advice from about classes, joining organizations, or any other questions they may have.
