Family Studies & Interior Design

Family Studies

The discipline of Family Studies is rooted in the social sciences including anthropology, psychology, sociology, communication, and political science. While recognizing these interdisciplinary roots, Family Studies has found its own unique field of study that contributes to scholarship and knowledge.  Family Studies promotes the understanding of the developmental processes within families and applies these concepts to better serve the needs of families. The program provides students with an understanding of the relationships between research, theory and practice. A Family Studies graduate is prepared to work with individuals and families in a variety of settings.

Interior Design

The mission of the Interior Design Program at the University of Nebraska Kearney is to provide interior design students with progressive academic preparation for professional practice in interior design, with additional emphasis in residential kitchen and bath design, advancing technologies, experiential learning, and evidence based design.  We provide a design education which produces baccalaureate level students who are concerned with, engaged in, and active contributors to the health and safety, and welfare of the interior design profession and society at large.
