In addition, she is a photographer whose prints have been published and also sell at local art and craft shows, and she is in the process of writing not only a family history but nonfiction articles to accompany her photography.

Since being a part of UNK, Ruth has met such famous people as Zig Ziglar, Tillie Olsen, Nebraska’s Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, and Lakota Writer, Joseph Marshall III.  All have left their words of wisdom and motivation to live by.

Zig Ziglar, Author and Speaker:
“You can have anything in the world you want if you’ll just help enough other people get what they want”.

Tillie Olsen, American Writer:
When first meeting Tillie, and telling her I was just the Secretary, she told me that she had once been a Kelley Girl and said, “You are never just anything…”

Joseph Marshall III, Lakota Writer - Storyteller:
“In life there is sadness as well as joy, losing as well as winning, falling as well as standing, hunger as well as plenty, bad as well as good. I do not say this to make you despair, but to teach you…that life is a journey sometimes walked in light and sometimes in shadow.”
