Post-Baccalaureate Transitional Certification Program

Degree Level: Non-degree program (or may be used as a concentration area in the Curriculum and Instruction Master's Degree Program).
Credit Hours: Minimum of 24 credit hours (will vary depending on previous coursework completed)
Delivery Format: Online with supervised field experiences and student teaching on-site
Prerequisites: A bachelor’s degree is required:
you must have proof of registration for the PRAXIS Core exam (if you haven't already completed it with passing scores) prior to enrolling in the first course.

The Post-Baccalaureate Transitional Certification Program is designed for those who already have bachelor's degree and are eager to become teachers. You may be a recent college graduate or a mid-career professional who wants to become a teacher, but have personal or professional commitments that make it impossible to attend on-campus college classes. This program consists of 18 credit hours of online teacher education coursework and 6 credit hours of student teaching. The three 6-credit-hour courses may be completed online while the supervised field experiences and student teaching are completed in your community. If an academic review of transcripts indicates a deficiency in the content area in which you are seeking certification, additional coursework may be required.

Students who meet the qualifications to start the Post-Baccalaureate Transitional Certification Program are also eligible to be hired by any Nebraska Department of Education approved school system, including parochial or private schools, to start teaching in their endorsement area under a Transitional Permit. Passing scores on Praxis Core and Subject Assessment (formerly Praxis II) are required for full certification.
