Accounting is the process of measuring performance in organizations and reporting it in a way that it can be used to make decisions. Proper measurement and reporting of performance is key to business success. Those who will have their performance measured and those who will make decisions in or for organizations will benefit from a better understanding of how the accounting information is generated, what each of the numbers in accounting reports mean, and how the information can best be used to make good decisions. The increased understanding students receive from a minor in accounting will enhance their value as an employee and increase their options as they mature in the profession.
