Steps to Reserve a Distance Education Classroom

If there is a class that you would like to have recorded for future online courses or if you have a student that would like to be connected via video from a remote site, follow the steps below.

  1. Call Video Services at Ext. 8927 to reserve a classroom. Provide Video Services with the dates and times of the course.
  2. Will the instructor need to interact with the students as the course is being taught?  If so, do the following:
    1. Inform Video Services that they want live interactive (video conference) course.
    2. Students should find a location with video conference equipment (distance education classroom).
    3. Have the student or technician call Video Services with the IP Address of the equipment, in order to make the video connection.
    4.  Make sure the student is registered for the distance education section.

  3. Will the instructor prefer to have the course recorded so the students may watch it later? If so, do the following:
    1. Inform Video Services that they want a video archive for their students.
    2. Make sure that the student is registered in the 80 or above section of the course.
    3. Post the link to the video in Blackboard.

  4. Listing the class in the schedule.  If you are offering this course where you plan to have students in the classroom on-campus, as well by distance, you will need to make sure two sections of the course are created; one designated as on-campus with the appropriate distance learning building/classroom and the other section designated as "videoconference."
  5. If the class is not already in the schedule accurately, complete the eCampus Initiation Form available on Sapphire under Miscellaneous.  On the form, be sure to indicate dates and times.
  6. Schedule a time for training on the equipment with Video Services at 865-8927.
  7. Inform Video Services if the class will not meet or start at a different time other than published start time on a certain date due to illness, out of town, etc. Please call Video Services at 865-8927.
