Dr. Richard Mocarski

PhD in Communication and Information Sciences from the University of Alabama, MA in Communication Studies from the University of Alabama, BA in English and Psychology from the University of Michigan

What do you do at UNK?:

I am the Chief Research Officer, overseeing the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Office of Research Development, and the Research Compliance apparatus. My goal is to create a campus environment that encourages and fosters original research from faculty and to find pathways to funding to support their work.

Why choose the Department of Communication at UNK?:

Communication is a versatile degree and one that is becoming ever more important as the ways in which information is disseminated and created continues to rapidly change.

I co-founded Trans Collaborations with Dr. Deb Hope (Professor of Psychology at UNL) and Nathan Woodruff in 2014 with the goal of reducing health disparities in the Transgender and Gender Nonconforming population. Our work included funding from the National Institute of Mental Health to create guidelines to care for behavioral healthcare providers and from the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities to create forensics-based workshops for TGNC persons to increase their self-efficacy through public speaking techniques.
